Haute Couture Techniques
Pleating
This a leaf I learned how to pleat while studying abroad in Paris. This is a technique used in Haute Cotoure. There is a lot of fabric used and when it is pleated it appears to look like there is less.
Hat Making
This is a sisal hat I made while studying abroad in Paris. We measured our heads and then began wrapping the fabric however we like.
This is a black wool hat I made while studying abroad in Paris. We first had to measure our heads and then we had to wet the wool to stretch it to make it the right size for our head. Then we steamed it to continue the stretching process. After we created the desired shape, we placed it on a blockhead and tied a string around it to separate the top of the hat from the brim. We let it dry overnight and added embelishments afterwards.
Shibori Dying
This is a silk scarf I shibori dyed while studying abroad in Paris. This is a technique used in haute couture.
